Desserts: In the Style of Wayne Thiebaud
In this ARTicle, second-grade students use materials provided by Artmosphere to create their own colorful artwork inspired by Wayne Thiebaud’s iconic paintings of everyday objects. Thiebaud, known for his vibrant depictions of cakes, pies, and other treats, encourages students to explore the use of bold colors, shapes, and shadows to transform simple objects into works of art. This lesson plan, designed as part of Artmosphere’s educational resource initiative, includes step-by-step instructions, discussion prompts, and a corresponding PowerPoint presentation to help educators guide the activity. Students will experiment with color, shape, and texture to communicate creativity and expressiveness, while learning to appreciate how ordinary objects can be seen in a new, artistic light.
